Server Configuration - OverviewChapter 2 Core Server Configuration Reference 29Some of these attributes are common to all plug-ins and some may be particular toa specific plug-in. You can check which attributes are currently being used by agiven plug-in by performing an ldapsearch on the cn=config subtree. For a list of plug-ins supported by Directory Server, general plug-in configurationinformation, the plug-in configuration attribute reference, and a list of plug-insrequiring restart, see Chapter 3, “Plug-in Implemented Server FunctionalityReference.”Configuration of DatabasesThe cn=NetscapeRoot and cn=UserRoot subtrees contain configuration data forthe databases containing the o=NetscapeRoot and o=UserRoot suffixes.• The cn=NetscapeRoot subtree contains the configuration data used by theNetscape Administration Server for authentication and all actions that cannotbe performed through LDAP (such as start/stop).• The cn=UserRoot subtree contains all the configuration data for the firstuser-defined database created during server installation. The cn=UserRootsubtree is called UserRoot by default. However, this is not hard-coded, and, given the fact that there will be multiple database instances, this name will bechanged and defined by the user as and when new databases are added.Configuration of IndexesConfiguration information for indexing is stored as entries in the Directory Serverunder the following information-tree nodes:• cn=index,cn=NetscapeRoot,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config• cn=index,cn=UserRoot,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config• cn=default indexes,cn=config,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=configFor more information regarding indexes in general, see Netscape Directory ServerAdministrator’s Guide. For information regarding the index configuration attributessee “Database Attributes Under cn=default indexes,cn=config,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config” on page 156. The attributes are presented here as this nodeis the first to appear in our representation of the configuration attributes that isbased on the cn=config information tree.
