See “UsingFace Detection” (A 67) for moreinformation.If more than one face is detected, thecamera focuses on the face closest tothe camera.When taking pictures of subjects otherthan people, or framing a subject withwhich no face is detected, the AF areamode setting switches to Auto, and the camera will automaticallyselect the focus area (up to nine areas) containing the subject closestto the camera.w AutoThe camera has nine focus areas, andautomatically selects the focus areascontaining the subject closest to thecamera.Press the shutter-release buttonhalfway to activate the focus area.When the shutter-release button ispressed halfway, the focus areas thatare in focus (up to nine areas) selectedby the camera will be displayed in themonitor.x ManualSelect one of 99 focus areas in themonitor. This option is suited tosituations in which the intendedsubject is relatively still and notpositioned in the center of the frame.Rotate the multi selector, or press H,I, J, or K to move the focus area towhere the subject is, and take apicture.To cancel focus area selection andadjust flash, macro mode, self-timer,and exposure compensation settings, press the k button.
