28The Basics of Shooting and PlaybackStep 4 Focus and Shoot1 Press the shutter-release button halfway,i.e., press the button slightly until you feelresistance.• When you press the shutter-release buttonhalfway, the camera sets the focus and exposure(shutter speed and aperture value). Focus andexposure remain locked while the shutter-releasebutton is pressed halfway.• When a face is detected:The camera focuses on the face framed by the doubleborder. When the subject is in focus, the double borderglows green.• When a face is not detected:The camera has nine focus areas, and automaticallyselects the focus areas containing the subject closestto the camera. When the subject is in focus, the focusareas that are in focus (up to nine areas) glow green.• When you are using digital zoom, the camera focuses on the subject in the center ofthe frame and the focus area is not displayed. When the camera has focused, thefocus indicator (A 6) glows green.• While the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the focus area or focus indicatormay blink red. This indicates that the camera is unable to focus. Modify thecomposition and press the shutter-release button halfway again.2 Press the shutter-release button the rest ofthe way down.• The shutter is released and the image will be saved tothe memory card or internal memory.• If you press the shutter-release button with too muchforce, the camera may shake, causing images to beblurred.
