14-4 Connectivity and printing9. Fax modem problemsWhen the communicator is used as a fax mo-dem (see Chapter 10 "System: Fax modem"on page 10-5), use autobauding. The commu-nicator and the PC must be using the samebaud rate. For the communicator, this is setin System settings. For the PC, the baud rateis set in the PC’s connectivity software. If a cable connection is used, fully compatibleoperation with all PC fax and terminal soft-ware cannot be guaranteed (consult withyour Nokia retailer). If you experience prob-lems with your PC fax software, use the in-frared connection. If you experience problems establishing adata connection with the remote modem, you can try fixing the data transmission rateby using an AT command, for example,ATS35=6, which defines the remote modemas a V.32 modem. Common AT commands(based on the ETSI 07.07 standard) supportedby the Nokia 9000i Communicator are listedin the file atcomm.txt on the diskette sup-plied with the product. For information onhow to use the AT commands, consult thedocumentation of the telecommunication orfax application that you use on your PC.Connectivity and printing10. Check the IRconnection, see Chapter 10 "System: Con-necting to a PC" on page 10-6.You are using an incorrect printer driver, seeChapter 8 "Notes: Printing documents" onpage 8-4.If you fail to establish a working infraredconnection, transfer the file to a PC and usethe PC to print the document. Ifan infrared connection is used, the IR portsmust be facing each other, see Chapter 10"System: Connecting to a PC" on page 10-6.12. Infrared connectionThe communicator may be connected to acomputer, laptop or printer via an infraredconnection. If you wish to use an infrared connection, thecomputer to which you want to establish aconnection must have an IrDA compatibleinfrared port; installed and activated IrDAdrivers; and Microsoft Windows 95 (for moreinformation on IrDA drivers and their use inWindows 95, contact Microsoft). If the IrDA drivers are activated on your com-puter, the computer will automatically detectthe presence of the communicator. If you want use a printer which does not havean infrared port, you may try to connect tothe printer via an IrDA adapter (not suppliedwith the Nokia 9000i Communicator). For further information see readme.txt file onthe diskette supplied with the communicator.
