All Rights Reserved.Making a callThe communicator can make and receive callsonly when:• The phone interface is switched on.• The communicator has a valid SIM card fitted.• The communicator is located in the servicearea of the cellular network ( is shown).Note: Emergency calls to the internationalemergency number 112 can usually bemade without the SIM card. Check withyour network operator. For more informa-tion about making emergency calls, seechapter 16 "Important safety information:Emergency calls" on page 16-2.1 Key in the area code and the phone number ofthe person you wish to call. If you make a mis-take, you can delete the digits one by one bypressing repeatedly, or clear the whole dis-play by pressing and holding down the key.For international calls, start by pressingtwice quickly. The international call character+ appears on the display, which informs thenetwork centre to select the country-specificinternational prefix. Enter the country code,area code and the subscriber number.2 Press to dial the phone number.3 When the phone number disappears and thetext Call 1 is shown, the call is connected.Note: The microphone and earpiece are on thebackside of the device.When a call is active, you can use the andkeys to lower or raise the volume level of thephone interface’s earpiece.Receiving a callWhen you receive a call, the communicator givesa ringing tone and the text CALL flashes on thedisplay. If you have selected Silent in Menu 10,only the keypad and display lights will flash. Ifyou have selected Beep, only a single beep will beheard. If the caller can be identified, the caller’sphone number (or name if stored in memory) andthe text CALLING will be displayed instead.You can answer the call any time, even while us-ing the memory or menu functions.To answer an incoming voice call, press orany other key except or .If you do not want to answer the call, simplypress . The caller will hear the alerting tonechange to a busy tone, and the call will be divert-ed to your voice mailbox if Divert when phone isbusy is on and set to To voice mailbox, see chap-ter 4 "Telephone: Telephone settings - Voice calldiverting" on page 4-6.Sending DTMF tonesIf you need to send long DTMF strings, it is moreconvenient to send them within the communica-tor interface, see chapter 4 "Telephone: Manag-ing calls - Sending DTMF tones" on page 4-5.1 Make a call to the desired phone number.2 Key in the digits you want to send as DTMFtones. The digits are sent one by one to thenetwork. DTMF tones can be transmitted evenwhen the keypad tones are set off.
