H OT S POT G ATEWAY ™44 Installing the HSGEstablishing the Start Up ConfigurationThe CLI allows you to administer the HSG’s start-up configuration settings. The start up configuration must be established before connecting the HSG to acustomer’s network. The “start up” configuration settings include: Assigning a Login Name and Password – You must assign a unique loginuser name and password that enables you to administer and manage the HSGsecurely. Setting the SNMP Parameters – The SNMP (Simple NetworkManagement Protocol) parameters must be established before you can usean SNMP client (for example, HP OpenView) to manage and monitor theHSG remotely. Enabling the Logging Options – Servers must be assigned and set up if youwant to create system and AAA (billing) log files, and retrieve errormessages generated by the HSG. Assigning the Network Interface IP Address – This is the public IPaddress that allows administrators and subscribers to see the HSG on thenetwork. Use this address when you need to make a network connection withthe HSG. Assigning the Subscriber Interface IP Address – This is the IP addressthat subscribers will see on the private side of the HSG. Assigning the Subnet Mask – The subnet mask defines the number of IPaddresses that are available on the routed subnet where the HSG is located. Assigning the Default Gateway IP Address – This is the IP address of therouter that the HSG uses to transmit data to the Internet. When establishing the start-up configuration for a new installation, youare connected to the HSG via a direct serial connection (you do nothave remote access capability because the HSG is not yet configured orconnected to a network). Once the installation is complete (see“Installation Workflow” on page 37) and the system is successfullyconfigured, you will have the additional options of managing the HSGremotely from the system’s Web Management Interface, an SNMP clientmanager of your choice, or a simple Telnet interface.User names and passwords are case-sensitive.
