April 2006The ConceptPackages are simply the same set of system files that has been configured to offer differentfeatures based singularly on the language/s used by the customer. There are only twopackages available – Basic and Full. The difference between the two is essentially as itsname suggests, which is, the Basic package doesn’t have all the features found in Full. The need for packages was primarily brought about by the release of PEP26, which consistsof a number of major enhancements that were meant to address the ever-apparent MeridianMail disparity situation. The problem is these new features are currently only available inAmerican English, Latin Spanish, German, & Mandarin. Therefore, customers who are usingany other language will not have those sought-after features available to them.To further complicate matters though, PEPs are normally cumulative in nature meaning theycontain all the fixes and files from the very first PEP that was released. This means not onlywill those same customers not have these new features, they will also be missing out oncritical fixes released in later PEPs. This too has been overcome with the introduction ofpackages. The Delivery MechanismThere are basically two criteria in selecting the right package to install:1. The language/s used2. The current PEP installedTo prevent users from choosing the wrong package as well as to simplify the process, theintelligent PEP was born. PEP HM040002G034 is the first PEP to have this built-in intelligence thatwill automatically select the correct package to be installed based on the above two conditions. Thegood news is there is no change to the installation of this PEP.
