For instructions on determining if you need to perform anupgrade, refer to ìVerifying the firmware and software versionî on page 191.About firmware upgrades and configuration filesEach time you perform a firmware upgrade, the configuration database is alsoconverted (if necessary) to a format that is compatible with the new firmware.Configuration settings are not affected by the conversion.Nortel recommends that, each time you perform a firmware upgrade, you createa backup copy of the converted configuration file, and store it in a safe securelocation.Before you beginIt is important to complete the following steps before performing a firmwareupgrade:1 Obtain the firmware upgrade from Nortel.For instructions, refer to ìObtaining the latest upgrade fileî on page 193.2 Extract the upgrade files from the file you received from Nortel.3 Start the TFTP server application.4 Ensure the TFTP base directory reflects the directory where the firmwareupgrade file you want to use resides.Getting there 911x → Configuration ManagerATTENTION!
