38 CHAPTER 4Configuration Booting From a Network TFTP ServerSR1001 Installation GuideVersion 8.3.5Booting From a Network TFTP ServerIn the rare and unlikely situation where a software version upgrade fails, a network boot maybe performed as described in the following procedure.1 Assume that the new T1000.Z download failed when the following command was issued:This command line is appropriate when the new upgrade T1000.Z file resides on a tftp serverhost with IP address 192.168.10.1, in a directory named software/router.Upon a download failure (and corruption or deletion of the T1000.Z file in Flash), the SR1001may not be able to boot.2 Make note of which Ethernet interface (0 or 1) connects the Secure Router to the tftpserver host.3 Connect a terminal or terminal emulator to the console port of the Secure Router usingthe cable supplied. Configure the terminal for 9600 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity,and XON/XOFF flow control.4 Power cycle the SR1001.5 Press and hold the Enter (Return) key while the Secure Router boots (usually 10-15seconds).6 The following (or similar) text is output to the terminal:7 Type c, and press the Enter key.NOTE: At any point in this procedure, online help can be accessed by typing ? and pressing the Enterkey.8 If Ethernet 0 is connected to the tftp server host, change fl0 (flash boot) to lnPci0.The following text is output to the terminal:Router> file/download 192.168.10.1 software/router/T1000.ZCopyright (c) ...Copyright (c) ...CPU: NortelVariation: 8.3.2RSP Version 1.1/2Creation date Sep 8, 2000, 19:14:24Press any key to stop auto-boot....1[Nortel Boot. reboot in 1 minute if CR not pressed]:[Nortel Boot]:[Nortel Boot]:...[Nortel Boot]:
