When you issue the ping command, the ping program sends anInternet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request to the remote IP addressthat you specify. The remote device responds if it can be reached, and the consoledisplays the response or the result of the request.To ping a remote device running IP, enter the following command:ping [-a] [-h] [-n] [-p] [-r][-s] [-t] [-v]IP_address is required. It is the IP address, in dotted-decimal notation, of theremote device. Note that hostname is also permitted if domain name service(DNS) is configured.-aaddress is optional. It is the source address.-hmax_hops is optional. It defines the maximum number of hops allowed.-n is optional. It disables DNS lookup.-p is optional. It generates a path trace report that displays the intervening hopaddresses to the destination and the time that it took to reach them.-rrepeat_count is optional. It is is the number of ping messages to send. Enter avalue from 0 to 10. The default is 1.-ssize is optional. It is the number of bytes of data to send with each ping.
