27 ShootingOptical image stabilizer functionWhen shooting with the camera hand held, you canreduce camera shake by using the optical imagestabilizer function.The optical image stabilizer can be switched ON/OFF with the button. [ ] is displayedin the viewfinder and the LCD monitor when theoptical image stabilizer is ON. When using a tripod,natural images can be obtained by turning theoptical image stabilizer function OFF. button• When tracking a moving subject or there is a lotof camera shake, stabilization may not work.Adding effects to imagesEffects can be added to images by pressing theUSER buttons assigned the [BLACKFADE] functionand the [WHITEFADE] function. The buttons areforcibly disabled during playback, REC CHECK,and thumbnail display.[BLACKFADE]:Press the button to fade out to black. At thistime audio fades out in the same way. Also,continue to press the button and the imagefades out, release the button and it fades in.[WHITEFADE]:Press the button to fade out to white. At thistime audio fades out in the same way. Also,continue to press the button and the imagefades out, release the button and it fades in.Using USER buttonsYou can assign a single function from among 16types of functions to each USER button.Use these buttons to change shooting conditionsquickly or add the fade effect to images to matchthe subject.In the factory settings, the following functions areassigned to each of the buttons.: [BACKLIGHT]: [D.ZOOM]: [SHOT MARK]For details, see the [USER1] - [USER3] items onthe setup menu [SW MODE] screen (Page 83).If you press a USER button to which one of thefunctions has been assigned, and then turn OFFthe power or change the mode during operationof the USER button function, it will return to theprevious state.Backlight compensationWhen shooting subjects in backlight, press theUSER button to which the [BACKLIGHT] functionhas been assigned.[BACKLIGHT] will be displayed on the screen.Auto iris control for backlight compensation willprevent the image of the subject from becomingdark.Press the USER button again to release backlightcompensation. (In the manual iris mode, the irisstatus is retained at the corresponding point evenwhen backlight compensation is canceled.)
