16 Q Chapter 1 - System OverviewU Programming from the RS232 port.A PC computer or laptop can be connected to the DBS 576HD phone system, via a DB9-pin RS232port inside the cabinet. Then, from the computer, you can program the phone system with ourproprietary PC-based software, DBS 576 Manager. This popular software package runs in a Windows 95 or Window 98 environment and makesprogramming and maintaining phone systems easy. The phone system parameters aregrouped together in windows so you can see the current settings all on the same page. To set aparameter, simply click a button, or select from a multiple-choice field, or type in an entry. It even hascontext-sensitive help if you get stuck (press F1 and a help screen will pop-up, explaining the fieldyou’re in).You can use DBS 576 Manager to “build” a phone system, then download it into the phone system’smemory all at once. Or you can perform individual, “live” changes to phone system memory from thecomputer. It can also be used for backing up and restoring phone system databases.U Programming from a remote location.Again using DBS 576 Manager, the DBS 576HD can be programmed from a remote location, usingan offsite computer terminal to call into the phone system.
