It is used toadd functions, downloaded from a web server via theInternet or an Intranet, to Internet Explorer. The recorderuses it to display video.Bit rateIndicates how many bits of data can be processed ortransmitted in a unit of time. Generally, the units are inbps, or bits per second. Used to indicate the compres-sion rate of video and audio data, and how much data acommunications line can send and receive in 1 second.Broadband RouterRouter used to access the Internet via high-speed ADSLor fiber optic lines.Cable ModemDevice used for connecting to the Internet via a CATVline. Called a cable modem because it functions similarto a modem on a phone line. Thisreduces the data transfer amount necessary for updat-ing information on the DNS server and reduces the loadon the network.DHCPA protocol that enables PCs to automatically get infor-mation from a server needed for accessing a network.DHCP ServerMaintains network-related information (assigns IPaddress ranges to (default) gateway servers and cli-ents), and distributes that information when clientsrequest it.DNSThe long lists of numbers or IP addresses that are usedin network environments are difficult to remember, whichmakes them impractical. This is why PCs are given aneasy-to-follow name (domain name) which is convertedto an IP address before they are communicated with. The DNS provides translation between domain namesand IP addresses.Default GatewayNetwork device used as a gateway for networks, suchas a local network, to access PCs on an external net-work. Data is sent using the default gateway if a gate-way is not specified in the destination IP address.Disk ConfigurationConfigure the HDD after replacing, removing, or addinga HDD.
