3. Configuring the DSL Router6300-A2-GB20-10 November 2003 3-15Once the PPP-negotiated IP address is assigned, the ReachDSL Router’sconfiguration database will automatically be converted to a new configurationdetermined by this IP address and the interface to which it is assigned. However, any changes made to the interface assignment for the PPP-negotiated IP addressdo not take effect until the next time the PPP link is established. This newconfiguration will result in the following: The DSL and/or Ethernet interface(s) are reconfigured. Routes associated with any interfaces that have been removed are deleted. An exception to this is when the negotiated IP address is assigned to theEthernet interface and the subnet defined by the interface’s IP address is thesame as the one defined by the negotiated IP address. All dynamic ARP entries are removed. All static ARP entries associated withthe DSL interface and any removed interfaces are deleted. Static ARP entriesfor the Ethernet interface are retained if the negotiated IP address is assignedto the Ethernet interface and the subnet defined by the interface’s IP addressis the same as the one defined by the negotiated IP address. The negotiated IP address automatically becomes the primary IP address andthe NAPT public IP address. An active service domain Telnet session is terminated if the interfaceassociated with the session is removed or the IP address of the interface ischanging. All DHCP bindings and BOOTP Relay Agent snoop information are removed ifthe subnet defined by the Ethernet IP address changes. If the new Ethernet IPaddress is still in the same subnet, then only the binding and snoopinformation that conflicts with this IP address is removed. When the negotiated IPaddress is assigned to the . . . Then . . .Ethernet interface of theReachDSL RouterThe DSL interface will automatically be configured asunnumbered, and any IP address(es) previouslyassigned to the Ethernet and DSL interfaces areremoved. A route for the subnet defined by thenegotiated IP address assigned to the Ethernet interfacewill automatically be added to the IP routing table.DSL interface of theReachDSL RouterAny IP address(es) previously assigned to the DSLinterface are removed. The IP address(es) assigned tothe Ethernet interface are left intact unless they conflictwith the negotiated IP address. The IP address used bythe Ethernet interface must be assigned by the user.DSL interface of theReachDSL Router using theIP Passthrough featureThe negotiated IP address is assigned to the DSLinterface of the DSL Router and served to a passthroughdevice on the LAN interface via DHCP. Any IP addresspreviously assigned to the DSL interface is removed. AnyIP address assigned to the Ethernet interface is left intact(unless it conflicts with the negotiated IP address). The IPaddress used by the Ethernet interface must be assignedby the user.
