Familiarize yourself with the following routerservices and determine which ones you need: Telnet – Enables router management over a telnet connection. Router management – Provides for out-of-band router management usingthe SANsurfer Router Manager. Simple network management protocol (SNMP) – Provides monitoring ofthe router using third-party applications that use SNMP. Network time protocol (NTP) – Enables synchronizing the router and theworkstation dates and times with an NTP server. NTP is disabled (and notconfigured) by default. File transfer protocol (FTP) – Enables transferring files rapidly betweenthe workstation and router using FTP.SecurityPasswords provide router security. The SANsurfer Router Manager requires apassword each time a user logs into the application. Once connected, theSANsurfer Router Manager prompts for an administrative password before itaccepts configuration changes.The CLI also requires the user to enter a user ID and password to start. CLI mustbe in an admin session to perform any set operations. An admin session requiresa password.The default password for both these management tools is “password” for thedefault user ID of “guest.” The default administrative password is “config.”Once logged on, you can change the password using the application’s securityfeatures.
