138 pdQ Applications HandbookSetting General PreferencesSetting General PreferencesThe General Preferences screen is where you set the current time, date, autoshut-off interval, and sounds for the pdQ smartphone.In the Preferences screen, tap the pick list and select General.Date and TimeYou can set the date and time manually on this screen. However, if you haveset up your pdQ smartphone to read the correct time over the air, it is notnecessary to adjust these settings.Auto-Off DelayYour pdQ smartphone automatically turns off the power and backlight after aperiod of inactivity to conserve battery power. If you find that your pdQsmartphone shuts itself off before you finish reviewing information on thescreen, you can increase the time setting of the automatic shutoff feature.To set the Auto-off delay:1. In the General Preferences screen, tap the Auto-off after: pick list.2. Choose a delay of 1 minute, 2 minutes, or 3 minutes.System, Alarm, and Game SoundsYou can adjust the volume of sounds your pdQ smartphone uses for games,alarms, and other notifications. If you prefer, you can turn them offcompletely.To set the sounds:1. Tap the System Sound pick list and select the sound level.When you turn off the System Sounds, you also turn off the “chime” tonesassociated with the HotSync operation.2. Tap the Alarm Sound pick list and select the sound level.3. Tap the Game Sound pick list and select the sound level.Game Sound works only with games that are programmed to respond tothis setting. Older games typically do not respond to this setting.Beam ReceiveYour pdQ smartphone is shipped with the Beam feature turned off to conservebattery power. To turn it on, tap the Beam Receive pick list and select On.
