MAINTENANCE 4GB-214.12 CHARGING BATTERY _____________________________________________________1. Refer to Section 4.10. Read the Battery andCharger’s manual for specific instructions.2. Whenever possible, remove the battery from thetractor before charging. If battery is not sealed, check that the electrolyte covers the plates in all thecells.3. Make sure the charger is “Off”, then connect thecharger to the battery terminals as specified in thecharger’s manual.4. Always turn the charger “Off” before disconnectingcharger from the battery terminals.4.13 HYDRAULIC HOSES _______________________________________________________1. Always lower implements to ground, disengage alldrives, engage parking brake, stop engine andremove key before inspecting or disconnectinghydraulic lines or hoses.2. Check visible hoses and tubes daily. Look for wethoses or oil spots. Replace worn or damaged hosesand tubes before operating the machine.3. The replacement tube or hoses must be routed inthe same path as the existing hose, do not moveclamps, brackets and ties to a new location.4. Thoroughly inspect all tubes, hoses and connectionsevery 300 hours.IMPORTANT: The hydraulic system can bepermanently damaged if the oil becomescontaminated. Before disconnecting any hydrauliccomponent, clean the area around the fittings andthe hose ends to keep impurities out of the system.a. Before disconnecting any hydraulic component, tag or mark the location of each hose then cleanthe area around the fittings.b. As you disconnect the component, be preparedto assemble plugs or caps to the hose ends andopen ports. This will keep impurities out of thehydraulic system and also prevent oil spills.c. Make sure “O” rings are clean and hose fittingsare properly seated before tightening.d. Keep the hose from twisting. Twisted hoses cancause couplers to loosen as the hose flexes dur-ing operation resulting in oil leaks.e. Kinked or twisted hoses can restrict the oil flowcausing the system to malfunction and the oil tooverheat and also lead to hose failure.WARNINGCharge battery in a well ventilated area. Batteriesgenerate explosive gases. To prevent an explosion, keep any device that may create sparks or flamesaway from the battery. To prevent injury, stand away from battery when thecharger is turned on. A damaged battery couldexplode.!WARNINGTo prevent serious injury from hot, high pressure oil, never use your hands to check for oil leaks, use paperor cardboard.Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure can havesufficient force to penetrate skin. If fluid is injected intothe skin it must be surgically removed within a fewhours by a doctor familiar with this form of injury organgrene may result.!
