203.9.9. Automatic Chemical FeedersAll chemicals must be introduced and completely dilutedinto the water before being circulated through the heater.High chemical concentrations will result when the pumpis not running (e.g. overnight).AA CAUTION: Combustion air must not be contaminatedby corrosive chemical fumes which can damage theheater and void warranty.AA CAUTION: High chemical concentrations from feedersthat are out of adjustment will cause rapid corrosion tothe heat exchanger. Such damage is not covered underthe warranty.CAUTION: Failure of a heat exchanger due to lime scalebuild-up on the heating surface, low pH or other chemicalimbalance is non-warrantable.3.9.10. Pool HeatingWhen a boiler or water heater is used in a pool heatingapplication, ensure that all the following installationrequirements are met. See Figure 22.The XTherm must be equipped with a direct-coupledinjector pump for pool applications. The standard integralwet-rotor injector pump system supplied with all H andmodel 1005A WH XTherm heaters MUST NOT be usedfor pool service. The direct-coupled pump is optional onall H and 1005A WH models, and standard on 1505A and2005A WH and all P models. The injector pump must be set to maintain 120°F (49°C)at the inlet to the primary heat exchanger on all XThermmodels. To complete installation of the heater, the systemsensor must be installed in the return water line, upstreamof the heater and wired to the S3 sensor position (TB1,pins 6 and 7).The onboard VERSA IC operating control is configured tooperate as the poolstat. A sensor is shipped loose to beinstalled in the system piping downstream of the heateroutlet. See Figure 22 for the sensor locations. Wire thesensor to the S6 sensor position (TB1, pins 2 and 3).For data on acceptable pool chemistry, see Table L. Forpipe sizing, see Table G and Table K.AA WARNING: To ensure safe operation of the XThermpool heater, plumbing from the heater outlet to the mainloop must be CPVC, copper or brass.AA CAUTION: Combustion air must not be contaminatedby corrosive chemical fumes which can damage theheater and can cause unwarrantable damage to theheater.Maximum distance not to exceed4 pipe diameters or 12" (305 mm)1TO POOLS6 SENSORS3 SYSTEM SENSORCPVC UNION (SLIP)FROM FILTER1F10018CHECK VALVEFigure 22. Single Pool Heater Application3.9.11. Winterizing Your HeaterHeaters installed outdoors as pool heaters in freezingclimate areas should be shut down for the winter. Toshut down the heater, turn off manual main gas valve andmain gas shut-off. Close isolation valves. Drain the heaterusing the hose bibs located on the bottom of both heatexchangers. Disconnect the condensate hose from thestainless steel condensing heat exchanger and drain thecondensate trap.NOTE: There are 3 separate drains on the XTherm thatmust ALL be drained to protect the heat exchangers. These are accessible by removing the lower front doorfrom the heater for the 2 primary drains and the right-rearpanel for the condensing heat exchanger drain. Drain anypiping of all water that may experience below-freezingtemperatures.AA CAUTION: Power to the heater should be interlockedwith the main system pump to make sure the heaterdoes not fire without the main system pump in operation.Improper flow control can damage the heater. Uncontrolledflow (too high) or restricted flow (too low) can seriouslydamage the heater. Follow these instructions to makesure your heater is properly installed.
