Regency® P48-2 Zero Clearance Direct Vent Gas Fireplace 23Diagram 7Diagram 69) Install wall thimble in the center of the 11"(279mm) square and attach with woodscrews (Diagram 7).Diagram 56) The arrow on the vent cap should bepointing up. Insure that the 1-1/4"(32mm)clearances to combustible materialsare maintained (Diagram 5). Install thetermination cap.Note: If installing termination on a sidingcovered wall, a vinyl siding standoffor furring strips must be used toensure that the termination is notrecessed into the siding. The four wood screws provided shouldbe replaced with appropriate fasteners forstucco, brick, concrete, or other types ofsidings.7) Before connecting the horizontal run of ventpipe to the vent termination, slide the WallThimble (Part # 1247) over the vent pipe.8) Slide the appliance and vent assemblytowards the wall carefully inserting thevent pipe into the vent cap assembly. It isimportant that the vent pipe extends into thevent cap sufficient distance so as to resultin a minimum pipe overlap of 1-1/4 inches(32mm). Secure the connection between thevent pipe and the vent cap by attaching thetwo sheet metal strips extending from thevent cap assembly into the outer wall of thevent pipe. Use the two sheet metal screwsprovided to connect the strips to the pipesection. See Diagram 6.INSTALLATIONUNIT INSTALLATIONWITH HORIZONTALTERMINATIONInstall the vent system according to themanufacturer's instructions included with thecomponents.1) Set the unit in its desired location. Checkto determine if wall studs or roof raftersare in the way when the venting system isattached. If this is the case, you may wantto adjust the location of the unit. Rough inthe gas preferably on the right side of theunit and the electrical (junction block is onthe left side) on the left.2) Direct Vent pipe and fittings are designed withspecial twist-lock connections to connect theventing system to the appliance flue outlet. Atwist-lock appliance adaptor is an availableoption that must be used in conjunction withthe Simpson Dura-Vent Direct Vent GSsystem. Install the adaptor after the unit isset in its desired location otherwise the unitwill not fit through the36-5/8" (930mm) high frame opening.3) Put a bead of silicone inside the outersection of the adapter and a bead of StoveMate on the inner collar. Slip the adapterover the existing inner and outer flue collarand fasten to the outer collar only with the3 supplied screws (drilling pilot holes willmake this easier). Level the fireplace andfasten it to the framing using nails or screwsthrough the nailing strips.4) Assemble the desired combination of pipeand elbows to the appliance adaptor andtwist-lock for a solid connection.Note:a) Twist-lock procedure: Four indentations, located on the female ends of pipes andfittings, are designed to slide straightonto the male ends of adjacent pipesand fittings, by orienting the four pipeindentations so they match and slide into the four entry slots on the male ends.(Diagram 1) Push the pipe sectionscompletely together, then twist-lockone section clockwise approximatelyone-quarter turn, until the two sectionsare fully locked. The female locking lugswill not be visible from the outside, onthe Black Pipe or fittings. They may belocated by examining the inside of thefemale ends.Diagram 1Note: For best results and optimumperformance with each approvedventing system, it is highlyrecommended to apply “Mill-Pac”sealant (supplied) to every innerpipe connection. Failure to do somay result in drafting or performanceissues not covered under warranty.Silicone (red RTV) is optional.b) Horizontal runs of vent must besupported every 3 feet (0.9meter). Wallstraps are available for this purpose.5) Mark the wall for a 11" x 11" (279mm x279mm) square hole. The center of thesquare hole should line up with the center-line of the horizontal pipe. Cut and frame the11 inch (279mm) square hole in the exteriorwall where the vent will be terminated. If the wall being penetrated is constructedof non-combustible material, i.e. masonryblock or concrete, a 8" (203mm) diameterhole is acceptable.Diagram 2Note:a) The horizontal run of vent must be level,or have a 1/4 inch rise for every 1 footof run towards the termination. Neverallow the vent to run downward. Thiscould cause high temperatures and maypresent the possibility of a fire.b) The location of the horizontal venttermination on an exterior wall must meetall local and national building codes, andmust not be blocked or obstructed. ForExternal Vent Terminal Locations, seediagram in "Exterior Vent TerminationLocations" section.
