Wireless network setup (CLP-325W(K)/CLP-326W only)_ 404.wireless network setup (clp-325w(k)/clp-326wonly)This chapter gives you step-by-step instructions for setting up the wireless network connected machine and software. This chapter includes:• Getting started• Choosing the wireless network installation type• Setting a wireless network with the WPS button• Setting a wireless network from the computer• Setting a wireless network from the computer• Turning the Wi-Fi network on/off• TroubleshootingFor more information about the network environment, networkprograms, and installing a network connected machine’s driver, referto the following chapters:•See "Network environment" on page 34.•See "Introducing useful network programs" on page 34.•See "Installing network connected machine’s driver" on page 37.Getting startedChoosing your network connectionTypically, you can only have one connection between your computer andthe machine at a time. There are two types of network connections toconsider:• Wireless network without access Point (Ad-Hoc mode)• Wireless network with an access Point (Infrastructure mode)Infrastructure modeThis is an environment generally used for homesand SOHOs (Small Office/ Home Office). Thismode uses an access point to communicate withthe wireless machine.• See "Installing the machine on a wirelessnetwork with an access point (Windows)" onpage 42.• See "Installing the machine on a wirelessnetwork with an access point (Macintosh)" onpage 44.Ad-Hoc modeThis mode does not use an access point. Thewireless computer and wireless machinecommunicates directly.• See "Installing the machine on an Ad-Hocwireless network (Windows)" on page 43.• See "Installing the machine on an Ad-Hocwireless network (Macintosh)" on page 45.After choosing your configuration, follow the simple directions for yourcomputer’s operating system, but first locate the software CD suppliedwith the machine before proceeding.Wireless network name and network keyWireless networks require higher security, so when an access point is firstset up, a network name (SSID), the type of security used, and a NetworkKey are created for the network. Locate this information before proceedingwith the machine installation.Choosing the wireless network installation typeThere are various ways to install the wireless network to connect to themachine. You can install a wireless network from the machine’s controlpanel or the computer. For most users, we recommend using the WPS( ) button to configure the wireless network settings. From the control panel• WPS ( ) : If your machine and an access point (or wireless router)support Wi-Fi Protected Setup™(WPS), you can easily configure thewireless network settings by pressing the WPS ( ) button on thecontrol panel. (See "Setting a wireless network with the WPS button" onpage 41).From the computerFrom the compurter, we recommend using a USB cable with theprogram provided in the supplied software CD.• With a USB cable: You can simply set up a wireless network using theprogram on the supplied software CD. Only Windows and Macintoshoperating system are supported (See "Setting a wireless network withUSB cable" on page 41).You can also install a wireless network in Printer Settings Utilitywith a USB cable after installing the driver (Windows andMacintosh operating systems are supported).• With a network cable: You can set up a wireless network using theSyncThru™ Web Service program (See "Setting a wireless network withnetwork cable" on page 46).Setting a wireless network with the WPS buttonYou can install a wireless network with the WPS ( ) button. After compleleting the wireless network connection, you need to installa machine driver to print from an application (See "Installing networkconnected machine’s driver" on page 37).
