3.6 TroubleshootingTips for avoiding paper jamsBy carefully selecting print materials and loading them properly, youshould be able to avoid most paper jams. If jams do occur, follow the stepsoutlined in “Clearing Jams” starting on page 3.2. If jams occur frequently,make sure that you are following these tips.• Properly follow the procedures described in “Loading Paper into thecassette” on page 1.8. Make sure that the adjustable guides are positionedcorrectly.• Do not overload the machine with paper. Make sure that only 250 sheets(20 lb) of paper are loaded at a time.• Flex, fan and straighten the paper before loading it.• Do not load wrinkled, creased, damp or highly curled paper.• Do not mix paper types.• Use only recommended print materials.• Make sure that the recommended print side is facing up when loadingthe feeder.• Keep print materials stored in an acceptable environment.If jammed in the printer output area (JAM 2)1. If the paper jams as it exits to the printer exit tray and a long portion ofthe paper is visible, pull the paper straight out.Stop pulling on the paper if you feel resistance, and the paper does notmove immediately when you pull. Continue with the next step.
