4.6 CHAPTER FOUR : THE FAX MACHINE4THE F AX MACHINEReceiving a FaxReception ModesYour fax machine has various reception modes:1. In FAX mode, the machine answers an incoming call and immediately goes intoreceive mode, expecting a fax to be sent.2. In TEL mode, automatic fax reception is turned off. You can receive a fax only bymanually pressing Start/Copy.3. In AUTO mode on SF3000T, the machine operates as it does in FAX mode, except thatyour fax machine plays a greeting message to callers before receiving the fax. Thecaller can’t leave a message for you in AUTO mode.In AUTO mode on SF3000, your fax machine will answer faxes automatically. If themachine does not pick up a fax signal, it will give another ringing tone to tell you it isa phone call. You should lift the handset to answer the call. If you do not pick up thehandset on your fax machine, it will switch to automatic reception mode.4. In TAD mode on SF3000T, the machine operates as in AUTO mode, except that thecaller can leave an incoming message on your machine, as well as a fax.To use TAD mode on SF3000, you have to attach an answering machine to the EXT linesocket on your fax machine (see page 4.10). When the phone rings, the answeringmachine answers and stores the caller’s message if they leave one.
