T2020 Operator's Manual 3The RF squelch keeps your radio quiet as long as any signals it receives are below a factory-set1threshold. This ensures that only signals which will be intelligible will be made audible.Continuous Tone-Controlled Sub-audible Signalling.2Digital Coded Squelch.3- the RF squelch requires that any signal made audible exceeds a preset level;1- the CTCSS or DCS mute requires that any signal made audible carries a2 3specific (inaudible) tone or code;- the Selcall mute requires that any signal made audible carries a special(audible) tone sequence at the beginning of the transmission.Note that the RF Squelch will always operate in your radio, but the CTCSS (DCS)or Selcall mutes are optional depending on the way your radio is programmed.4 The key may be programmed to override one or more of the mutes. The mostcommon configuration is as follows:- a brief press (less than one second) overrides any Selcall or CTCSS/DCSsignalling mute. (If hookswitch monitoring is programmed, lifting themicrophone off hook will have the same effect.)- a long press (more than one second) additionally overrides the RF squelch.If you are not sure how your T2020 has been programmed, consult your Tait dealer.5 The radio is equipped with an automatic RF squelch. Occasionally, you may findthe message you are receiving is still intelligible, but is being cut off periodically bythe RF squelch. In this case, you can force the radio to leave the RF squelch opencontinuously by giving the key a long press until the radio sounds two shorttones, beep.beep, and the ! indicator flashes.6 Your radio may be fitted with the ability to hush (mute) another device such as a carstereo, to enable you to hear a call better. Consult your Tait dealer to see if thisfacility is active on your radio.To Transmit1 If the BUSY indicator is on, the channel is busy and you must wait until it is freebefore proceeding. If you attempt to transmit anyway, the "WAIT" indicator mayappear in the display, and your attempt will be deferred. The radio will sound an
