Operating in conventional mode 79Using monitor and squelchoverride (on analog channels)The monitor function allows you to override some orall of the radio’s mutes, and hear if there is any trafficon a channel before you make a call.The squelch override function lets the radio useroverride the squelch (carrier) mute and hear all noiseon a channel, including weak signals that are belowthe programmed squelch threshold.Your radio may be programmed to activatemonitor whenever the microphone is off themicrophone clip.To turn monitor on and off:1 Press Menu and select Radio settings >Functions > Monitor.(Depending on how your radio is programmed, youmay be able to press a function key to togglemonitor on and off.)2 Scroll to On (or Off) and press Select.While monitor is on, the green LED flashes slowlyand the monitor icon appears in the display.Your radio may be programmed so that monitorturns off automatically after a short time.To turn squelch on and off:1 Press Menu and select Radio settings >Functions > Squelch o’ride.Squelch is often programmed as a longkeypress of the same function key that turnsmonitor on and off.2 Scroll to On (or Off) and press Select.This allows you to hear even faint and noisysignals. While squelch override is on, the greenLED flashes continually, and the squelch overrideicon appears on the display.
