66 Operating in trunked modeDialing a status messageIf your radio has alphanumeric keys, the statusmessages programmed for your radio can be dialed.To dial the message, you need to know the numberassociated with the status message.To dial a status message:1 Dial *0s*n, where s is the number of the statusmessage and n is the radio unit number you wishto send the message to.2 Alternatively, dial *0s*p, where p is the number ofa preset call. See "Dialing a preset call" on page 54for more information.3 Press Send or the # or PTT key.The call details appear in the display. While the callis being setup, you can cancel the call bypressing Clear.About trunked text messagesYour radio may be programmed so that you can sendtext messages. The three options for creating textmessages are selecting a preset text message,editing a draft text message, or creating a new textmessage.To either edit or enter a text message, yourradio must have alphanumeric keys.Using the alphanumeric keys to enter textWhen the alphanumeric keys are used to enter a textmessage, they have special functions.■ Use the # key to select the type of text entry:upper and lower case characters (ABC, abc), ini-tial capitals (Abc), or numbers (123).■ Use the left selection key (Clear) to delete a char-acter from the display.■ Use the scroll keys to move through a message.
