76 Operating in P25 trunking modeAbout P25 trunkingYour radio may be able to operate on a P25 trunkingsystem as well as a conventional repeater-basedsystem. On a conventional system, radio userscompete for access to individual channels, and onechannel can be overloaded with traffic while othersare often unused.The trunking system allows several channels to beautomatically shared by a number of radio users.These traffic channels are pooled and allocated, asrequired, for the duration of a call. As calls arecompleted, the traffic channels are returned to thepool, to be used for other calls. This system meansreduced waiting times to make calls.Checking that the system isavailableWhen you first switch to a talkgroup configured forP25 trunking, the radio attempts to access thenetwork and register on a control channel.If registration is successful, the trunking systemavailable icon appears in the display.Registration is unsuccessfulIf registration is not successful, does not appear,and the display shows No service.The radio may sound five beeps, followed by arepeating double beep.
