B–98 Operator ManualIf you are installing a printer on an active system, go through the following listbefore connecting the Twinax cable(s).• Verify that the printer address matches the one given it on the host andthat no addresses are duplicated anywhere on the line. You can check theaddress of the printer by accessing the HELP Menu on your printercontrol panel and printing out a Control Panel Selections Printout (seeChapter 3).• Make sure the printer is turned OFF.• Terminate the device immediately up cable (between the printer and thehost) from the printer.• Any jobs going to devices down cable (between the printer and the end ofthe network) must be put on HOLD.• Place any devices that are down cable from the printer OFFLINE.Now connect the cable from the out connector of the up cable device to eitherside of the Host Connector Smart T and if there are devices down cable, connectthe cable going to them to the other side of the Smart T. The Smart Tautomatically takes care of terminating the Twinax line or allowing throughput ofdata to devices located down cable from the printer.Coax InterfaceThis interface is optional and requires the installation of an additional interface module. Makesure that the printer is turned off. To connect to a Coax system, use the BNCadapter (a DB-15 to Coax). Connect the adapter to the Host Interface plug onthe printer I/O. The Coax interface allows a maximum of 5,000 feet (1.5 km)from the host computers to the printer.Figure B - 2. Twinax Smart “T” AdaptorYour Twinax hookup is now complete and it is time to test your printer to verifyits operation. Load your printer with paper and an ink ribbon.
