See “Titling” on page 12.5 Press ENTER to load (or save) the effect. Thedisplay shows the parameter editing MIC EFFECTscreen.Pressing EXIT cancels the load and returns thesettings to the previous parameters.Editing mic effectsThe parameters to be edited for the effects differaccording to the type of effect selected.TIPIf you are unsure of the operation of a compressor orany of the effects described here, it is a good idea toread one of the many excellent introductory books onaudio and recording.Compressor (CMP) The THRESHOLD at which thecompressor kicks in, the RATIO of the compressor, andthe ATTACK and POST GAIN times.De-esser (DSR) The FREQUENCY at which the de-esser operates and the DEPTH of the effect.Exciter (EXC) The FREQUENCY and the DEPTH of theeffect.Multi-effectOn the 2488, a “multi-effect” is a chain of effectswhich can be used together as one insert effect forprocessing a guitar sound, for example.A multi-effect is made available together with thefour mic effect setting.Selecting the multi-effect for use is done in the sameway as selecting the four mic effects (see above).Assigning the multi-effect to a channel or inputThe multi-effect is assigned in the same way as themic effects: press and hold the MULTI key and pressthe input or channel SELECT key.Any input or channel assigned when the MULTI keyis first pressed flash.Unassigning the multi-effect follows the same proce-dure: press and hold the MULTI key, and press theflashing SELECT key.NOTEThe multi-effect can be freely assigned to mono inputsor channels or to linked or stereo input or channels.Editing the multi-effectPressing the MULTI key brings up the multi-effectscreen.At the bottom of the screen, below the parameters, isa block of three-letter abbreviations (circled in theillustration here). These represent the different indi-vidual components of the multi-effect. The positionsof the effect components in the chain cannot bechanged.Use the right and left cursor keys to navigate betweenthem.• NSP: Noise Suppressor (noise gate). This effect isalways at the start of the chain. Adjust theTHRESHOLD, amount of SUPPRESSION, ATTACK andRELEASE. You can also SWITCH this effect on or off(in or out of the chain).
