TASCAM 2488 User’s Guide 595 – MasteringWhen all your tracks have been recorded, it’s time tomake a stereo mix onto CD. These operations are allcontrolled from the AUDIO CD menu.NOTEThe operations all deal with songs on the currently-selected partition. If the song you want is on anotherpartition, you must select another disk partition as theactive partition before proceeding (see “Selecting theactive partition” on page 65).All mastering operations are accessed from the AUDIOCD menu.1 Press the MENU key and navigate to AUDIO CD.2 Press ENTER.Pre-masteringThe start of the pre-mastered material is always the00:00:00.00 point, and the end of the pre-masteredmaterial is the OUT point.Before starting the pre-mastering process, make surethat if you are using the sub-mixer, this is assigned tothe stereo outputs.1 Set the OUT point at the position where youwant the pre-mastered material to stop.2 On the AUDIO CD menu, move the cursor to PREMASTER and press ENTER.The screen changes to the home screen, butwith the word MASTERING at the top left of thescreen.If any REC READY indicators are on, they areturned off, and they cannot be turned on againwhile pre-mastering is being carried out.While pre-mastering, transport controls work in theusual way, except that:• Playback and fast forward will stop at the OUTpoint, and the playback position cannot move pastthis point.• Auto punch operations are disabled.• Jog and trim are disabled.• Pitch control and SSA are disabled.• Direct location is disabled.• Recording is carried out as explained below.Recording the pre-masterTo record the pre-master stereo tracks, press and holdthe RECORD key, and then press the PLAY key. Boththe PLAY and the RECORD indicators light.Recording always starts (regardless of the currentposition) at 00:00:00.00.The mastering records the effects of all mixer set-tings and effect settings, etc.If you do not stop the recording before the OUTpoint, it will automatically stop at the OUT point. Ifyou stop the recording at the OUT point, the masterrecording will stop there, and the length of the trackwill be from the 00:00:00.00 point to the point wherethe recording stopped.NOTEThe minimum length for a CD track is four seconds.Make sure that all mastered recordings are at least thislength.The maximum length for a CD track recorded from the2488 is 80 minutes. Tracks made from the 2488 shouldnot exceed this length,During the mastering operation, all channel opera-tions (EQ, send, fader/pan) can be carried out, eitherfrom the 2488’s controls, or by means of MIDI com-mands.NOTEWhile you are recording the master, synchronizationand the sub-mixer can be used to add synchronizedMIDI sound sources to the stereo master mix.You can set and edit effect parameters and recalleffects from the effect libraries while mastering.It is also possible for you to make assignments whilemastering, and recall scene memories.When you have mastered the recording, you caneither re-master the recording (simply press and hold
