Section 1 – Introduction to the DA-9806/97 – 1.00 – 1-3ing progresses. Since this monitoring is not syn-chronized exactly with the source inputs, gaplesspunch-in and punch-out is not possible in confi-dence mode. For full details of confidence moni-toring, together with other monitoring modesavailable on the DA-98, see 7, “Monitoringmodes”.1.4.3 Environmental conditionsThe DA-98 can be operated in most environments, but we suggest that you keep the environmentalconditions within the following limits:Ambient temperature between 5° and 35° C (41°and 95° F).Relative humidity should be between 30% and80% non-condensingThere should be no strong magnetic fields (speak-ers, etc.) near the DA-98.Avoid spraying polish, insecticides, etc. near theDA-98.Avoid subjecting the DA-98 to jolts, suddenshocks, etc.TASCAM does not accept responsibility for dam-age resulting from neglect or accident.1.4.4 Installing the DA-98The DA-98 may be installed in a standard 19”rack, occupying 4U of space. Since the DA-98 isquite heavy (around 11kg – 24lb), your rackshould be strong and stable to take the weight ofthe DA-98.Optional rack mount adaptor handles (RM-98) areavailable. For details, see 15.1.1, “RM-98 RackMount Adaptor”.The DA-98 should be mounted with the frontpanel vertical.1.4.5 Electrical considerationsMake sure that your local power supply matchesthe voltage requirements marked on the rear panelof the DA-98.If you are in any doubt concerning the local powersupply, consult an electrician.Avoid extreme voltage fluctuations. If necessary, use an input voltage regulator to smooth the powersupplied to the DA-98.Do not open the unit to clean inside, or to performany internal adjustments. You should not attemptany cleaning or other maintenance procedureswhich are not described in this manual. You may need to clean the heads occasionally. The procedure for doing this, and for checkingtape error rates, etc., is given in 14, “Maintenanceand memory setups”.1.4.6 CondensationIf you use the DA-98 in a warm place after mov-ing it from a cold place (for instance, recording onlocation), or if there has been a sudden change intemperature, condensation may occur within thetape mechanism, with a risk of possible damage tothe unit.WARNINGIf you need to clean the DA-98, use a soft cloth, moist-ened if necessary with a little detergent and water. Donot use abrasive cleaners or solvents such as alcohol orthinner.WARNINGIf you have to return the unit for service or repair, usethe original packing materials if possible. If the unit is tobe transported to a recording location, etc., use a suit-able transport case with sufficient shock protection.
