Section 8 – Advanced operations06/97 – 1.00 – 8-9However, each track can be patched internally totake its input from any one of the eight inputs orfrom any one of the other tape tracks. Note that inthe example below, it is possible for a track to actas an input source to another track at the sametime that it is recording from an external input. This allows great flexibility in dubbing situations.Naturally since the DA-98 tracks are digital, thereis no loss of quality incurred when tracks aretransferred.8.11.1 Track Copy (channel-to-trackrouting)1) Select menu group 0, move the cursor to TrkCopy and press ENTER:2) Use the LEFT and RIGHT keys to move thecursor to the off on the bottom line of thedisplay and change it to on.The TRACK COPY indicator will light.3) Use the LEFT and RIGHT keys to move thecursor to the track you want to route. You can also use the function keys as number keysfor direct selection of the track (see 5.2.2, “Usingthe function keys as number keys”).4) Use the UP and DOWN keys to change the trackinput between inputs 1 through 8 and tracks 1through 8.5) To re-route a track to its input, press and holddown the UP key and then press the DOWN key.8.12 REC MUTE (recordingsilence)There may be times when you wish to prevent anysignal from reaching an armed track (in otherwords, when you record, you are recording silenceonto the track.1) Enter menu group 1, move the cursor to Recmute and press ENTER:In the screen above, tracks 7 and 8 are muted (noinput signal is routed to them).2) Use the LEFT and RIGHT cursor keys tonavigate between tracks. Use the UP and DOWNkeys to switch the track muting of individualtracks on or off.Pressing and holding the UP key and then pressingthe DOWN key will reset the REC MUTE settingsof all tracks.8.13 DitherDither is the technique of adding a known noise tolow-level signals, especially when convertingfrom a high number of bits (for instance 24 or 20NOTEIt is not possible to combine tracks (as in conventional“ping-pong”) using the Track Copy function. Combin-ing of tracks must be carried out through an externalmixing console. You can bounce a track to itself, but it isnot a particularly meaningful process!T r a c k C o p yI n p u t 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ( A n a )T a p eT r a c k 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 o f f3 4 5 6 7 8211 2 3 4 5 6 7 83 4 5 6 7 8211 2 3 4 5 6 7 8Track CopyInput 1234 (Dig)Tape 1234Track 12345678 onInputsTapetracksNOTEIf you change from analog to digital input (see 8.10.1,“Changing between digital and analog inputs”) or viceversa, the display will change between (Ana) and(Dig) as appropriate.R e c M u t eO n ª ªO f f ª ª ª ª ª ªt r k 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
