Section 10 – Operations related to timecode06/97 – 1.00 – 10-13the slave is now 10 minutes and 4 frames behindthe master.Since the slave is meant to be exactly 10 minutesbehind the master, the difference, +4 frames, is the“relative difference” between the master and theslave. To view the absolute and relative differencesbetween master and slave machines:1) Go to group menu E:2) Move the cursor to either Abs Diff(absolute difference) or Rel Diff (relativedifference). The appropriate value will beshown on the bottom line of the display screen.10.7.9 Rechasing timecodeWhen timecode is received, the DA-98 can eitherconstantly monitor the internal off-tape timecode(or the ABS equivalent as set in 10.2, “Tape time-code mode”) and the external timecode, issuing“speed-up” and “slow-down” messages to thetransport to keep itself in sync (rechasing), or itcan synchronize once and run freely, ignoring theincoming timecode. While the DA-98 is re-syncing (speeding up andslowing down), playback output will be muted, unless the clock is set to INT). Usually you shouldfind that the DA-98 does not need to rechase, however, and you can leave it in free-runningmode. If the timecode master tape includes abreak in the timecode, though, you may want theDA-98 to rechase the master. As well as selecting rechase, you can also selectthe length of the “rechase window”. This meansthat if the difference between internal and incom-ing timecode is greater than the value of this win-dow (1 or 2 seconds in the case of the DA-98), thesynchronizer will start to rechase.1) Go to menu group 4, move the cursor toRechs Mod (rechase mode) and pressENTER:2) Use the LEFT and RIGHT keys to select theMode field, and the UP and DOWN keys tochoose between rechase and free.3) If you select rechase , use the RIGHT key tomove to the Window field, and select a windowof either 1 or 2 seconds.10.7.10Bypassing timecode errorsAs timecode is received from a remote masterunit, it may be subject to errors (dropouts on thetimecode master tape, etc.). These errors cancause synchronization failure (the DA-98 will nolonger be locked to the timecode of the masterunit). You can set the DA-98 to bypass and ignoreincoming timecode errors of up to 30 frames inlength, or up to 10 frames in length.1) Go to menu group 4, move the cursor toErrBypass (Error Bypass), and pressENTER:2) Use the UP and DOWN keys to select between10 and 30 Frame.E x t T C A b s D i f fT a p e T C R e l D i f fG e n T C0 0 : 0 0 : 0 0 : 0 4 2 5 FSlave (offset set to+00:10:00:00) MasterTape countershows:10:05:12:08but should be10:05:12:12Tape countershows:10:15:12:12Absolute difference =+00:10:00:04Relative difference =+00:00:00:04R e c h a s e M o d eM o d e W i n d o wr e c h a s e 1 s e cE r r o r B y p a s s1 0 F r a m e
