Use the LEFTand RIGHT keys until the cursor is by the Postfield, and repeat the steps above.The minimum value for post-roll is 3 seconds.6.6.5 Rehearsing the punch-inAfter you have set the punch points, and you havelocated the tape to the pre-roll point, as describedabove, you can rehearse the punch process.1) Press the RHSL key [9] so that the indicatorlights steadily.This indicates that you are now in rehearsal mode.2) Press PLAY. The tape will start playing from thepre-roll point.3) At the punch-in point, monitoring will changeto source.The RECORD key will flash, and the REC FUNC-TION indicator of any armed tracks will lightsteadily. However, recording will not be carriedout.4) At the punch-out point, monitoring will changeback to off-tape monitoring.The tape will continue playing to the post-rollpoint and then rewind to the pre-roll point.5) Repeat the rehearsal process until you aresatisfied with the performance.6.6.6 Interrupting a rehearsal or punchrecordingVery often while rehearsing a punch-in, you willnot want to run the tape all the way to the punch-out point (an entry cue is missed, or a mistake ismade early on in the take). In these cases, the fol-lowing procedure applies to both rehearsal andpunch recording:1) While the tape is running, press the LOC 1 key[22].There is no need to press STOP first.The tape will return to the punch-in point, minusthe value specified in the punch-in offset (6.6.4,“Editing the pre-roll and post-roll times”).2) Pressing PLAY will then re-start the rehearsalor punch-in process.6.6.7 Recording the punch-in1) Make sure the tape is at the pre-roll point, andpress the AUTO PUNCH key [10] once.The indicator will flash, showing that the DA-98 isin auto-punch mode.2) Press PLAY. The tape will start playing.At the punch-in point, the RECORD indicator willlight steadily, as will the REC FUNCTION indica-tors of any armed tracks. Monitoring will changefrom off-tape to source and the INPUT MONITORof any armed tracks will light.Recording will now actually take place. Anyrecorded material which was previously on thearmed tracks between the punch points will bereplaced by the new recording.NOTEIf the AUTO PLAY mode is active (press the AUTOPLAY key [12] so that the indicator lights), playbackwill start again as soon as the pre-roll point is reached.NOTEThe pre-roll location time (see 8.1.3, “Setting the loca-tion pre-roll time”) is not used here.NOTES• Pressing the LOC 2 key will locate the tape to thepunch-out position minus the punch-in pre-roll time.• These functions are only operative when the RHSL orAUTO PUNCH indicators are lit or flashing. Whenthey are off, the LOC 1 and LOC 2 keys will act nor-mally.• If the SHIFT key has been pressed, and the SHIFTindicator is flashing, the LOC 1 and LOC 2 keys willact as function keys (see 5.2.1, “The SHIFT key andfunction keys”).
