TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Manual 237 – EffectsUse the two built-in effects units to add effects to themicrophone, the four program signals, the samplers(see “Samplers” on page 26), or the master outputs.NOTEFor details of connecting and using an external effectsunit, see “External effect” on page 8.The two internal effects units can be assigned to thefollowing outputs:EFFECT 1: microphone, programs 1 and 3 and sam-pler 1.EFFECT 2: Programs 2 and 4, the master output, andsampler 2.Assign the effects using the effect assignment con-trols (EFFECT POSITION), which determine wherethe effect will be used:Turn the effects on and off using the EFFECT keys. Itis also possible to set the footswitches to turn theeffects on and off (“Footswitch assignment” onpage 18).Selecting the effect typeSelect the effect type (either foreffect 1 or effect 2) using theselection control:The available effects are:Editing the effectsEach effect has two parameters which you canchange to customize the sound1:LEVEL the level at which the effectworks.TIME The time factor which determinesthe sound of the effect (for example, thespeed with which an auto-pan goesbetween channels)The time parameter works in conjunction with the:BEAT parameter, and is used to synchronize theeffect to the received beat of the music or allowsmanual setting of the timing. See below for details.To set the LEVEL and TIME parameters:1 Press the appropriate EFFECT key so thatthe indicator lights.2 Press the FUNCTION key so that either theLEVEL or TIME indicator is lit.If the LEVEL parameter is selected, use the DATAknob to set the level of the effect (see the tablebelow).If the TIME parameter is selected, use the DATA knobto set the parameter.The BEAT parameterIf the “beat” mode is selected with the EFFECT keylit, the X-9 will make its best effort to determine thebeat from the music being played from the sourcedselected using the selectin control. This beat is thenused as the basis for setting the effect time parameter.Press ENTER to select the BEAT mode.
