378.0 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION8.1 LUBRICATION CHARTThe Monsoon Monitor requires little maintenance. The monitor should be kept clean and free of dirt. All controls should be checked forfreedom of movement and proper operation before each use. Consult factory for recommended service procedure. Any inoperable ordamaged parts should be repaired or replaced immediately.• Make sure that the monitor's handwheels rotate freely and without binding throughout its range of travel.• Make sure that there are no leaks when the monitor is flowing water.• Make sure the nozzle is free of debris. The Monsoon monitor generally should not require greasing. In the event that the operation becomes stiff grease may be applied to thehorizontal rotation and elevation worm gears. The grease is applied by removing the plugs at the grease ports and replacing with greasefittings that have ¼-28 male threads. See figures 8.1A and 8.1B for grease port locations. Use medium viscosity automotive chassisgrease. Apply only enough grease to restore normal operation. If normal operation is not restored by greasing than inspect for othercauses of stiff operation.Note: Do not over pump grease. The monitor's greased areas lead to large chambers that could trap several pounds of greasebefore becoming visible.Fig 8.1ALocation of Grease Portfor Horizontal Rotation Worm Gearand Elevation JointFig 8.1BLocation of Grease Portfor Elevation Worm Gear8.2 PERFORMANCE TESTINGPerformance tests should be conducted on the Monsoon Monitor after repairs are made, or any time a problem is reported to verifyoperation in accordance with Task Force Tips test procedures. Consult the factory for the test procedure that corresponds to the modeland serial number of your monitor. Any equipment that fails the test criteria should be removed from service immediately. Equipmentcan be returned to the factory for service and testing.Installgrease fittingshere if desired.Installgrease fittinghere if desired.SYMPTOMSTOW & OSC LED’s onmonitor control station blinkrapidly when button pressed.Unable to program STOWpattern.Monitor will not operate fromY4E-COMM communicationinterface box orLadder/Platform versionelectronics enclosure.POSSIBLE CAUSELoosen encoder wiring connection.Bad motor encoder.Program enable timer expired.Incorrect wiringIncorrect INPUTS configurationREMEDYCheck axis encoder connection.Interchange motor control boards.
