Installation instructions for geoTHERM exclusive VWS 0020051614_00184.7.3 Lines for primary circuitThe lines for the primary circuit of the Vaillant heatpump geoTHERM to the domestic hot water cylinder un-iSTOR should be made of copper and should have a min-imum diameter of 22 mm.Lines with bigger diameters must possibly be used if thedistance between the heat pump and the cylinder is toobig. It is not necessary to design a circulation pump forthese lines because the Vaillant is equipped with heatpump via an integrated circulation pump.4.7.4 Laying of the discharge pipesThe discharge connections of the temperature/pressurecompensation valve as well as of the safety valve mustbe connected via 15 mm copper pipes with the supplieddrain hopper. The tundish should be installed verticallyas close to the appliance as possible and within 500 mmof the temperature and pressure relief outlet. It must bepositioned away from any electricl components an din-stalled in the same space as the geoTHERM eclusive, sothat it is vislible to the user. The discharge pipe fromthe temperature-/pressure compensation valve andfrom the safety valve can be joined via a T piece abovethe tundish. The drain pipe from the 22-mm connection of thetundish must be laid to a safe and visible outlet withcopper pipe with at least 22 mm diameter.A vertical line section which is at least 300 mm longmust be below the tundish, before the line reaches acurve. If the total drag of the drain pipe exceeds the val-ues specified in table 4.2 below, the line diameter mustbe increased. During the installation of the drain pipe, the G3 specification must be observed. The cylinder relief valve connections should not to beused for any other purpose.Minimum diame-ter of the drain-pipe from thetundishMaximum permissi-ble total drag, con-veyed as a straightlength of pipe (with-out elbows or deflec-tions)Resistance as aresult of everyelbow and deflec-tion respectively22 mm up to 9 m 0.8 m28 mm up to 18 m 1.0 m35 mm up to 27 m 1.4 mTable 4.2 Maximum permissible tube lengthExamples:22-mm drainpipe with 4 elbows and 7 m length oftundish up to the drain:Resistance for 4 elbows0.8 m each = 3.2 mResistance for discharge pipe = 7.0 mTotal resistance = 10.2 mThe total resistance of the drain pipe is more thanthe permissible maximum value (9 m) for 22-mmpipe. Base your calculations therefore on the nextlargest pipe diameter.28-mm drainpipe with 4 elbows and 7 m length of thetundish up to the drain:Resistance for 4 elbows1.0 m each = 4.0 mResistance for discharge pipe = 7.0 mTotal resistance = 11.0 mThe total drag of the drain pipe is lower than that forthe 28 mm lines permissible maximum value (18 m);thus, this line diameter is suitable.metal discharge pipe fromtemperature relief valve totundishmetal discharge pipefrom tundish withcontinuous falltundishdischarge belowfixed gratingfixed gratingtrappedgullysafety device(e. g. temperaturerelief valveventil)500 mmminimum300 mmminimumFig. 4.5 Typical drainage installationWater which is almost boiling may escape from the dis-charge pipe in the event of an error.4 Assembly and installation
