Operating Instructions25CONTROL IDENTIFICATION, LOCATION, ANDFUNCTIONCAUTIONBefore operating the mower, become famil-iar with the location and function of all op-erator controls. Knowing the location, function, and operation of these controls isimportant for safe and efficient operationof the mower.Ignition SwitchThe ignition switch is located on the right front of thebody and is used to start and stop the engine. Theswitch has three positions: “O” is the OFF position,RUN is the position the key returns to after starting, and “S” is the START position. When starting theengine, turn the key clockwise to the “S” position.Do not hold the key in the “S” position longer than10 seconds. If the engine does not start, return thekey to the “O” position for at least 60 seconds beforemaking a restart attempt. Prolonged cranking candamage the starter motor and shorten battery life.Release the key when the engine starts, and it willreturn to the RUN position. To stop the engine, rotatethe key counterclockwise to the “O” position.Engine ChokeThe choke control lever (black knob) is located onthe left side of the seat. To start a cold engine, movethe choke control forward to the ON position. Afterengine starts, move the choke control toward theOFF position, keeping enough choke to allow theengine to run smoothly as it warms up. As soon aspossible, move the choke to the OFF position. Awarm engine requires little or no choke for starting.IMPORTANT: Make sure the choke is in the OFFposition during normal engine operation; runningwith the choke in the ON position CAN damage theengine.Operating ControlsIgnition SwitchKey PositionsOFFSTARTONForward SpeedControl (FSC)ParkingBrakeBlade Clutch(PTO)Ignition Switch(See Inset)Light Switch(Optional, Not Shown)Oil PressureWarning Horn5 AmpCircuit BreakerChoke(Not Visible)HourmeterThrottleSteeringLevers
