(Extreme Pressure)80W-90 (API GL-5) gear lube] to maintain oil level tothe FULL mark on the dipstick.IMPORTANT: DO NOT overfill the PTO gearbox toavoid oil leakage out of the dipstick standpipe. If the oil level is low, check the gearbox for any indi-cation of an oil leak. If an oil leak is noted, the gear-box will need to be removed and rebuilt.PTOGearboxJackshaftDipstickDipstick Location, Tractor PTO GearboxChanging Gearbox OilThe tractor PTO gearbox is oil filled. No scheduledoil change is required. However, changing the oilafter the first 100 hour break-in period will extendgearbox life and is recommended.1. Remove the drain plug in the bottom of thegearcase, drain the oil, and reinstall the plug.2. Refill the gearbox through the dipstick stand-pipe using 7 to 8 fl. oz. (21 to 24 cl) of SAE E.P.(Extreme Pressure) 80W-90 (API GL-5) gearlube. Remove plug in top of gearcase to ventair when refilling.3. Check that the oil level is at the FULL mark onthe dipstick. DO NOT overfill.Gear Axle Lubrication• The gear axle oil lubrication is SAE E.P. 80W-90(API GL-5) gear lube.• Check the axle oil level after every 100 hours ofoperation by removing the oil level plug. If additionaloil is needed, remove the breather vent on top of axleand fill until oil is at the level plug.• Change axle oil every 1000 hours or two (2)years.Hydrostatic Transmission FluidChecking Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid LevelThe hydrostatic transmissions are sealed unitsand do not need to be opened to check the fluidlevel. Hydrostatic fluid level should be checked ev-ery 25 hours of machine operation. It is preferableto check the fluid when the fluid is cold. Checkfluid levels as follows:IMPORTANT: Removing or breaking the seal onthe hydrostatic reservoir cap within the first1000 hours will VOID THE TRANSMISSION WAR-RANTY.1. Park the mower on a level surface. Stop theengine and wipe dirt and contaminants fromaround the base of the reservoir to better seethe COLD mark.2. The level of the oil can be seen through the sideof the opaque reservoir (DO NOT REMOVERESERVOIR CAP); using a light next to thereservoir will help make the level more visible.
