Page 42 FT-950 O PERATING M ANUALμ-TUNE FILTER (REQUIRES THE OPTIONAL RF μTUNING KIT)The RF μTuning Kit provides ultra-sharp RF selectivity for the front end of the transceiver. Very high Q is made possibleby the narrow-band design. Three RF μTuning Kits are available. The MTU-160 covers the 1.8 MHz band. The MTU-80/40 covers the 3.5 and 7 MHz bands. The MTU-30/20 covers 10.1 and 14 MHz bands. When any (or all) of the three optional units are connected, they will be automatically adjusted to center on your operatingfrequency. The narrow bandwidth is especially useful on the low bands, when many strong signals are being received via NVISpropagation (Near Vertical-Incidence Signals) within a narrow bandwidth. The added protection for the RF stage is espe-cially helpful in preventing IMD and blocking.μ-Tune Operation1. Press the [μ-TUNE] button to activate the μ-Tune fil-ter. The LED inside the [μ-TUNE] button glows or-ange. The [SELECT] knob works as the μ-TUNINGknob.ADVICE: The tuning position of the μ-Tune filter will appearin the Tuning Offset Indicator on the display forthree seconds, and the “ ” icon will be indi-cated in the FLT column of the Block Diagram Dis-play on the display.I NTERFERENCE R EJECTION[μ-TUNE] Button[SELECT] KnobTuning Offset Indicator[CLEAR] ButtonBLOCK D IAGRAM D ISPLAY The μ-Tune circuit will automatically align itselfonto your operating frequency. Remember that μ-Tune only operates on the 14MHz and lower bands.2. Rotate the [SELECT] knob to peak the response (back-ground noise) or reduce interference.ADVICE: You may observe the relative peak point of the μ-Tune filter in the Tuning Offset Indicator on thedisplay, while tuning the [SELECT] knob. The amount of change in the center frequency ofthe μ-Tune filter, when rotating the [SELECT]knob by one click, can be configured using Menuitem “032 GENE μT DIAL032 GENE μT DIAL032 GENE μT DIAL032 GENE μT DIAL032 GENE μT DIAL”. If you have performed manual adjustment of the μ-Tune filter center frequency, you may press the[CLEAR] button to re-center the filter response onyour current operating frequency.3. Press the [SELECT] knob momentarily to disengagethe μ-Tune filter; the “ ” icon will be changed to“ ” in the FLT column of the Block Diagram Dis-play on the display. In this mode, only the fixedbandpass filter for the current band will be engaged.ADVICE:Press the [SELECT] knob (momentarily) once more, the μ-Tune filter is activated again.TUNING OFFSET INDICATORBlock Diagram DisplayADVICE: The μ-Tune Filter selection will be memorized inde-pendently on each VFO stack of the VFO-A and VFO-B. You may change the indication of the Tuning OffsetIndicator to display the center frequency of the μ-Tunefilter continuously while the μ-Tune filter is activated. This is Menu item “006 DISP BARSEL006 DISP BARSEL006 DISP BARSEL006 DISP BARSEL006 DISP BARSEL”.
