3What is WIRES-X?WIRES (Wide-coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System) is an Internetcommunication system which expands the range of amateur radio communication. Byrelaying radio signals via the Internet, stations can be connected where radio wavescannot reach each other.WIRES uses local nodes (stations connected to the Internet via PCs) as access pointswhich repeat communications of conventional amateur radio stations. When the localnodes are connected to each other via the Internet, amateur stations all over the worldcan communicate with each other just by connecting conventional stations to the localnodes.Local node Local node StationStationInternetIn addition to the WIRES features, WIRES-X also supports digital communications. UsingWIRES-X, you can transmit and receive digitalized data such as text, image data andaudio.Using the WIRES-X in conjunction with the transceiver allows you to have analog/digitalcommunications with stations outside the communication range. In digital communicationmode, you can search stations by call signs or keywords, and exchange data such asmessages and location information.
