Operation26your trip.EMU27130Controls Check throttle, shift, and steering for prop-er operation before starting the engine. The controls should work smoothly, with-out binding or unusual free play. Look for loose or damaged connections. Check operation of the starter and stopswitches when the outboard motor is in thewater.EMU27140Engine Check the engine and engine mounting. Look for loose or damaged fasteners. Check the propeller for damage.EMU27180Operation after long period ofstorageOil injection modelsWhen operating the engine after a long peri-od (12 months) of storage, proceed as fol-lows:1. Use a 50:1 gasoline to oil mixture to startthe engine.2. Start the engine. Leave it idling.WARNINGEWM01330 Do not touch or remove electrical partswhen starting or during operation. Keep hands, hair, and clothes awayfrom the flywheel and other rotatingparts while the engine is running.3. Watch for oil flowing through the oil feedpipes. After any air in the oil lines hasbeen expelled, the oil injection systemshould supply oil normally. If no oil isflowing after 10 minutes of idling, consultyour Yamaha dealer.CAUTION:ECM01260Be sure to take the above steps when op-erating the engine after a long period ofstorage.
