4 - 11ENGCYLINDER HEAD COVERREMOVING THE CYLINDER HEAD COVER1. Align:• “I” mark(with stationary pointer) a. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise with awrench.b. Align the “I” mark 1 on the rotor with thestationary pointer 2 on the A.C. magnetocover. When the “I” mark is aligned with thestationary pointer, the piston is at the TopDead Center (TDC).NOTE:• When the piston is at the top dead center(TDC) on the compression stroke, thereshould be clearance between the valve stemtips and their respective rocker arm adjustingscrews.• If there is no clearance, rotate the crankshaftcounterclockwise one turn. 2. Remove:• cylinder head coverNOTE:Loosen each bolt 1/4 of a turn at a time, instages and in a crisscross pattern. After all thebolts are loosened, remove them.21CHECKING THE CYLINDER HEAD COVER1.
