3-18EEMU01739TILTING UP/DOWNIf the engine will be stopped for some time,or if the boat is moored in shallows, theengine should be tilted up to protect the pro-peller and casing from damage by collisionwith obstructions, and also to reduce saltcorrosion.CAUTION:@ Before tilting the motor, follow the pro-cedures under “STOPPING ENGINE”.Never tilt the motor while the engine isrunning. Severe damage from over-heating can result. Do not tilt up the engine by pushingthe steering handle as this could breakthe handle. Keep the power unit higher than thepropeller at all times. Otherwise, watercan run into the cylinder, causing dam-age. The outboard cannot be tilted up whenthe outboard is turned 180° (facing tothe rear).@WARNING@When adjusting the tilt angle, be carefulnot to pinch any body parts between thedrive unit and engine bracket.@WARNING@Leaking fuel is a fire hazard. Tighten theair-vent screw and place the fuel cock inthe closed position if the engine will betilted for more than a few minutes. Other-wise, fuel may leak.@
