4-21EDraining the oil by removing the oil drainplug1) Remove the four bolts to remove theapron from the starboard side.2) Tilt the outboard motor 5–10 degreesup, and then turn it entirely to the star-board side until the drain plug is directlybelow.3) Prepare a suitable container which canhold a larger amount than the oil capac-ity. Loosen and remove the drain bolt 2while holding the container under thedrain hole. Let the oil drain completely.Wipe up any spilled oil immediately.4) Put a new gasket on the oil drain bolt.Apply a light coat of oil to the gasket andreinstall the drain bolt.NOTE:@ If a torque wrench is not available whenyou are installing the drain plug, fingertighten the bolt just until the gasket comesinto contact with the surface of the drainhole. Then tighten 1/4-1/2 turn. Have thedrain bolt torqued to the correct value witha torque wrench as soon as possible.
