4 - 108CHASSHAFT DRIVEEAS00726ALIGNING THE FINAL DRIVE PINION GEARAND RING GEARNOTE:@Aligning the final drive pinion gear and ringgear is necessary when any of the followingparts are replaced:• Final drive housing• Ring gear bearing housing• Any bearing@1. Select:• final drive pinion gear shim(s) 1• ring gear shim(s) 2 a. Position the final drive pinion gear and thering gear with shims 1 and 2. Calculatethe respective thicknesses from informationmarked on the final drive housing and thedrive pinion gear.1 Final drive pinion gear shim2 Ring gear shim3 Thrust washerb. To find final drive pinion gear shim thickness“A”, use the following formula:Where:a = a numeral (positive or negative) on thefinal drive pinion gear, to be divided by 100and added to “84”. If there is not a numeralavailable on the final drive pinion gear, aequals zero.b = a numeral on the final drive housing, to bedivided by 100 and added to “83”.Example:If the final drive pinion gear is marked “+01”and the final drive housing is marked “50”:A = (84 + 1/100) – (83 + 50/100)= (84 + 0.01) – (83 + 0.50)= 84.01 – 83.50= 0.51Final drive pinion gear shim thicknessA = (84 + a/100) – (83 + b/100)
