Loosen the ring nut fully turn and thentighten it to specification with a steeringnut wrench.WARNINGEWA21110Do not overtighten the steering ring nut.e. Check the steering head for looseness orbinding by turning the front fork all the wayin both directions. If any binding is felt, re-move the lower bracket and check the up-per and lower bearings.Refer to “STEERING HEAD” on page4-24.f. Install the washer “1”.5. Stand the vehicle upright on a level surface.WARNINGEWA13120Securely support the vehicle so that there isno danger of it falling over.2. Check:• Inner tubeDamage/scratches  Replace.• Front fork legOil leaks between inner tube and outer tube Replace the oil seal.3. Hold the vehicle upright and apply the frontbrake.4. Check:• Front fork operationPush down hard on the handlebar severaltimes and check if the front fork reboundssmoothly.Unsmooth operation  Correct or replace.Refer to “FRONT FORK” on page 4-14.TIPIf any damage is found or the front fork does notoperate smoothly, have a Yamaha dealer checkor repair it.5. Check:• Protector guide “1”Out of specification  Replace.TIPThe protector guide reaches the limit of its usewhen it is worn down to the same height “a” asof the outer tube circumference.6.
