C ZOLL Ventilator Operator’s Guide 4-19Smart Help MessagesAt the onset of an alarm, the Alarm Message Center (AMC) in the upper left-hand corner of thedevice’s LCD screen displays a Smart Help message. The Smart Help message displays thealarm name with a series of messages to help the operator resolve the alarm. The AMCindicates the number of active alarms as a series of Alarm Bell icons at the bottom with eachbell indicating an active alarm. The ventilator prioritizes alarms and displays the alarmindicating the greatest risk first. All messages are context-based and suggest what is causing thecondition and how it can be resolved.Smart Help DisplaySmart Help messages contain the information and instructions for all active alarms, such as inthe previous example:a. Alarm Name: Describes the nature and/or cause of the fault or failure. The AlarmName appears at the top of the AMC. When more than one alarm occurs at thesame time, the unit prioritizes them based on patient safety.b. Mitigation/Resolution Instructions: Instructions for the operator as to how thealarm state may be resolved.c. If not Resolved Instructions area: Instructions for the operator on what to do ifthey cannot resolve the alarm state. The instruction is always shown in the followingformat **Message...**.d. Alarm Icons: For each active alarm, an alarm bell appears. When multiple alarmsare active, the number of bells corresponds to the number of alarms. The alarm inthe AMC is demonstrated as the solid bell. To view each active alarm, turn theselection dial to scroll through all active alarms. If there are less then 5 alarms, theplot icon also appears.e. Service Code: Each alarm has a 4 digit number associated with it, which helps theoperator indicate the specific alarm when communicating with technical support.f.
