9When lighting any burner, ensure that it is litbefore you leave the appliance.When turning off a burner, ensure the flamehas gone out before leaving the appliance.Things to noteIf you are having any difficulty lighting a hobburner turn all the hob controls off and makesure the burner parts have been replacedcorrectly.Hints and tips• Do not overfill pans or they will boil over.• Do not use pans with very heavy handles,which cause the pan to tip.• The hob surface should be allowed to coolbefore closing the lid.Place pans on the centre of the burners.Position pans so the handles cannot beaccidentally knocked or overhang theappliance. Lift pans on and off the pansupports. Do not slide them across the hob .• Do not leave accidental spillage on the hobor removable parts. The spillage should bewiped up and the parts washed and carefullydried as soon as the hob, pan supports andburner parts are cool enough to touch.• A flat-based Wok will stand stable on the pansupports. If you use a round Wok with acollar support, the collar must be the openwirework type otherwise the performance ofthe burner will be affected.Take care to avoid burns and scalds whenreaching across the hob.Take extra care when deep fat frying, do notcover the pan with a lid. Do not leave a panunattended. If the pan catches fire, leave itwhere it is and turn off all controls. Place adamp cloth or a fitting lid over the pan tosmother the flames. Never put water on thefire. Leave to cool for 30 minutes. Do not allow hot pans or baking trays totouch the controls as damage may occur.Do not use the lid as a work surface orchopping board. This could damage theglass and reduce its strength.If you close the lid of the appliance whilstany of the hob burners are lit the gas will goout. This is because it would be dangerous ifthe burners stayed on when the lid was shut.Always use the control knob to turn off aburner. Do not use the lid as a cut off device.In the event of the burner flames beingaccidentally extinguished, turn off theburner control and do not attempt to re-ignite the burner for atleast 1 minute.
