2-2Storage Manager on ROMOverviewStorage Manager on ROM (SMOR) is a BIOS-based setup utility thatenables you to configure your Adaptec RAID controller withoutloading an operating system and using Storage Manager. You canalso use SMOR to perform basic array configuration. SMOR makesthe initial setup of your RAID controller and RAID storage easierand faster. To configure your hardware and create disk arrays when StorageManager is not available, run SMOR during system startup. This isespecially useful for a new system where you need to create diskarrays before you install the operating system. After your storage subsystem is configured, install your operatingsystem according to the appropriate procedure in the Adaptec RAIDInstallation Guide for your controller. For access to all of theadvanced features of your controller, install the version of StorageManager specific to your operating system. To run SMOR and configure a new system, follow these steps:1 Press Ctrl+A when the Adaptec RAID controller BIOS messageappears during boot to start SMOR.2 Inspect the hardware configuration as shown by SMOR.a Verify that all peripheral devices and controllers are shown. If any devices are missing from the display, exit SMOR andcheck your hardware connections.b View the Information window for each controller to verifythat all installed expansion and memory modules are shown(see the Attached Modules section of the figure on page 2-6.Note: 3400S only: SMOR reports a 3400S as a 3200S having anattached module for the extra two channels. This is becausethe 3400S is a 3200S with an additional factory-installed twochannel daughter card giving it its four channel capacityNote the IRQ and address displayed in the Configurationwindow (see page 2-10). The IRQ and address values maybe required during installation of your operating system.
