3. Getting startedBarco – Argus X Terminal – DOC-3265-2 – user's manual – Revision 04 – May-2004 ________________________________________________________________________ 3-303.2.16 Arrangement of expansion cardsThere are various ways to insert Barco’s expansion cards into the PCI slots of the A RGUS OMNI BUS devices. The mostimportant rules are listed below:• A graphic card with digital output transmits the data to an O MNI S CALER for additional video and RGB integra-tion, or if no video or RGB sources are displayed it transmits data directly to the display wall. A graphic cardwith analog output displays data always without OMNI S CALER . Data is transmitted between a graphic card andan OMNI S CALER by means of the external Dual-DVI to Dual-DVI cVI to Dual-DVI cable.• Data of QUAD A NALOG VIDEO CARD , BIG VIDEO CARDS, DUAL RGB INPUT CARD and RGB INPUT CARD can only be displayedon the projection modules that are connected to the O MNI BUS devices, in which these cards are inserted.• Cards of the same type are inserted in consecutive order, but not all cards of one type must be in the sameOMNI BUS.• The order of the different types of expansion cards in the PCI slots of one O MNI BUS is first graphic cards thenOMNI S CALERS and finally input cards.• If not all slots are used for plugging in expansion cards, then these empty slots should be located betweengraphic cards and OMNI S CALERS.• Graphic cards can be placed in different O MNI BUS devices than OMNI S CALERS and the input cards belonging tothem.• If no graphic cards are used in an O MNI BUS, then the OMNI S CALERS are inserted in the PCI slots with the lowestnumbers at the very left.• In a distributed system, it is necessary that the display wall is built of rectangular arrays. That means theoutput to the wall of each OMNI BUS that provides data for the display wall must feed a rectangular array.• In the rendering machine of a distributed system either one or two OMNI BUS devices can be connected to therendering processor. If using one O MNI BUS all kind of boards may be inserted into it. If using two OMNI BUS de-vices one is for graphic cards, the other for OMNI S CALER and input cards.• Depending on the type of the cards used in one O MNI BUS and the model of the OMNI BUS, the maximumamount of cards within the OMNI BUS varies, please refer to section 6.1.6 Combination rules.Examples of some significant configurationsThe examples below cover different kind of configurations to point up the rules given above. The following ab-breviations are used:• G: graphic card• O: OMNI S CALER• I: input card, i.e. QUAD A NALOG VVIDEO CARD , BIG VIDEO CARD , DUAL RGB INPUT CARD or RGB INPUT CARDThe schematic drawings of the OMNI BUS devices show always the view on the back of a device. To keep it clearlyarranged, only the 18 free available PCI slots of an O MNI BUS are plotted. The display wall is shown from the front!
